Free performance poetry workshop
Sorry again about the long delay between updates. We had a massive slam last month, featuring great sets from guest poets Rhys Rodgers and Tobias Manderson-Galvin – in fact I think it might have been the largest turnout since we started running slams at The Front. On that note, this month’s slam will celebrate our third birthday!

Look out for some more info about this special slam shortly.
Meanwhile, I’ve been very busy organising a free workshop for people under 30, that will explore the techniques and skills that professional performance poets use and how you can use them to improve your own practice. The tutor is Daniel Ferri (yes the very same Daniel Ferri that appears in the film SlamNation!). I worked with Daniel on a similar workshop last year which was extremely well received by all participants.

Oh, one other thing, Tom posted a review of what looks like an excellent exhibition of paintings by Joabie Lovett over at the Belconnen Community Centre: Symbols of the Dreaming from the Chaos Void. It finishes this Friday so get there quick!

The June slam was a great one, with a large and appreciative crowd. I look forward to the July 31 slam, though as usual I am dubious about the inclusion of a band. Why am I about the only one who ever comments? What else can I do to make the slam better than ever?

Not sure – could be busyness, could be apathy, could be not many people actually visiting the blog!
That’s a pretty difficult question! Perhaps you could talk to other people at the slam and find out what they like or don’t like?

have to sorta agree – maybe a band + poetry is too much, certainly one of the few annoying things about the front is that it is not very large, and so bigger audience is not always better. Better fewer, but better?
I would like to see some music folk who are able to doodle ad libitum while other folk declaim.
I know the link from my site don’t generate much traffic – cause no one visits me either
And to end ’tis a shame this forum is not used to generate more discussion about art and poetry et alii

Well, I’ll bear it in mind.
I’m a bit uncomfortable calling this blog a ‘forum’: I think it’s too much of a vehicle for my idiosyncratic thoughts to provide a evenly footed place for lots of people to discuss poetry. The slam group on Facebook might be more suitable perhaps?
