River of Art festival

I was contacted this week to let Canberra poetry slammers know about an opportunity to be part of Moruya’s River of Art festival. Sounds like a great event!

During the River of Art festival in Moruya (8-16 May), our writers group is hosting an event where local writers are invited to read/perform their work aloud to an audience over brunch in a coffee shop which accommodates up to 60 people. We limit the time to around 5 minutes in order to give everybody a go, and a second turn is possible according to number of participants. The whole event will run for 2-2.5 hours.

We are aiming for variety – so it will not be a Poets Breakfast style event, but rather incorporate other genres e.g. storytelling, short stories, short drama pieces etc. We even have some ’soap box’ entries.

We thought it would be good to have some poetry slammers to add to the variety and to introduce the idea to those who are as yet unfamiliar. Because it would take its place in the rest of the program rather than be a feature, participants would need to feel OK with having such a role. I know it is a long way to come, but maybe there are some who are keen to visit during the festival and attend other events too.

Please contact Julie Brennan – pass AT activ8 DOT net DOT au if you’re interested in being involved.
